Although we have not yet began our screening process, I would like to share some activities that will help prepare all my 4th grade students.  1. Study multiplication table (1-12) 5-10 minutes daily. This year our math curriculum focus revolves around the multiplication table. We will be studying: Multi-digit multiplication, Factoring, long division, and fractions. All of these concepts require a deep understanding of the multiplication table.  I will supply each student with a laminated multiplication chart (magnetic so you can keep it on the!) that will be kept at home. As per 4th grade national standards, students will not be allowed to use a multiplication chart in class. 2. Read 20 minutes ever day. This is an activity that we expect students to be do starting Kindergarten, however, it is even more crucial this year and the years preceding, because we expect more independent work.  Everyday parents can expect a reading response homework sheet. Once a week students will be expected to complete a simple book report in which they will list the: character, plot, and setting of a book they have read that week. 3. Consistent sleep schedule: 9-11 hours. Research shows that students' focus and comprehension is severely diminished without the proper amount of sleep. Students are more likely to have disruptive behaviors, and less able to be an 'active listener' without proper sleep.    It is best not to allow children to have any electronic devices at bedtime, as the sounds and lights prevents proper rest.    Thank you for keeping up on our classroom events. I am excited to see your throughout the year while we further the success of your child.       Carson Bryant
